A Temporary Resident Visa (TRV) lets you enter Canada for tourism, family visits, business meetings or short-term events. Multiple-entry visas can be valid for up to 10 years or the passport expiry, subject to IRCC discretion.
Common visitor visa categories
- Tourist visit — sightseeing, holidays
- Family visit — visiting relatives already in Canada
- Business visit — meetings, conferences, short-term training
- Super Visa — parents and grandparents of Canadian citizens/PRs
Documents typically required
- Passport, photographs, biometrics
- Proof of funds — bank statements, salary slips, tax returns
- Employment or business proof
- Travel history, ties to home country
- Invitation letter and host details (for family / business visits)
- Purpose of travel and detailed itinerary
Refusal risks to plan for
Common visitor visa refusals cite weak home-country ties, insufficient funds, unclear travel purpose or inconsistencies. A careful document set and a clear narrative reduce risk — but no consultant can guarantee approval.
